last friday, there was an island-wide power outage (brownout!). it lasted for 5 hours. so the malls were full and almost all restaurants with generators were full too.
we decided to go to this chinese restaurant. yup, it was full to. but since we were suki there, the staff accommodated us. they told us to just share the big table with another couple. while we were waiting for our orders (which took at least 30 minutes to arrive), i was observing the couple we were sharing the table with. they were probably in their late 50s or early 60s. the just quietly ate there, while the husband was reading the paper. not a single word was uttered while they ate. while islandboy and i were updating each other on what happened to each of us that day at the same time, trying to feed islandbaby oranges.
then i whispered to islandboy: i hope we don't end up like that
islandboy (IB): what do you mean?
islandgirl (IG): we have a meal together but we don't talk.
IB: that will never happen with us
IG: i really hope so. i wish that when we grow old, we still like to be in each other's company and not just forced to be with each other
IB: that will never happen. we will always have conversations even if we are old
oh how i wish we don't become like the couple we shared the table with. i wish and pray that when we do grow old, we grow old together... don't get tired of each other... run out of things to discuss aside from kids... and continue to be the best of friends until our twilight years.
